Wedge was conceived as prototype for a high-end retail, stand-alone building. The scaled prototype was erected in an Expo in Mumbai to test the display and retail interfaces on how they interact with visitors. Wedge is simple Shoe Box, stretched, dissected and deformed to create an exciting retail space. The project got its name from the character of the trapezoidal spaces within the dissected box.
The interior space has been organized as centripetal, pinwheel form, as the central gathering space that holds different Wedges around the periphery, with its undulating volumes and roofline. The peripheral wall sets the tone of the encounter with the exhibits with its unique cut-outs, which reveals and masks the displays simultaneously to lure the visitors in. The central gathering space has a series of light ‘vectors’ (1200 mm long T5 lamps), which form an enclosing canopy and fuse the space to complete the Box.
